the Director. Advanced notice shall be given the Director prior to <br />performing this task. <br />3) Renovation <br />a. Shrubs shall be thinned and pruned, sepazated and/or relocated for <br />the health of the planting and the appearance of the site, and at such <br />other times when directed by the City. Infill planting of bare <br />shrub areas shall be replanted in the months of March through <br />June with plant material of the same species one time per year as <br />part of routine maintenance at no additional cost to the City. <br />4) Watering <br />a. All shrubs shall be properly irrigated to maintain a healthy condition. <br />Shrub areas shall be deeply watered as required by weather <br />conditions to provide adequate moisture for optimum growth. At no <br />time shall shrub areas be allowed to show a lack of fresh green color <br />or a loss of resilience due to lack of water. <br />b. Wherever or at any time that an irrigation system is damaged, fails <br />or does not adequately cover the shrub area in which it is installed, <br />the Contractor shall furnish and set out hoses and sprinklers, or other <br />portable means, as required to uniformly water the shrub. <br />c. Automatic irrigation shall be conducted between the hours of 10:00 <br />p.m. and 4:00 a.m. and shall be programmed to prevent excessive <br />run-off, ponding or over watering. <br />d. Shrub areas shall not be maintained in an over watered and/or <br />saturated condition. <br />e. Contractor shall respond immediately to signs of plant stress. Plant <br />material lost due to stress shall be deemed contractor negligence, and <br />replaced at Contractor's expense. <br />5) Replanting <br />a. The Contractor shall be responsible for the complete removal and <br />replacement of shrubs lost due to normal attrition or due to <br />Contractor's faulty maintenance or negligence, as determined by the <br />Director, at no additional cost to the City. <br />6) Cultivation and Mulch <br />a. All bare soil or open areas shall be either cultivated weekly or <br />covered by a minimum of two (2) inches of mulch. All mulch <br />material shall be of a recycled product free from foreign grasses and <br />20 <br />
