OCCC's program design emphasizes both work and <br />school. To work at the OCCC you must also have an educational goal and be making <br />satisfactory progress towards that goal to remain employed. Therefore, corpsmembers <br />with poor schoo] attendance, or those that are not making progress towards their <br />educational goals (high schoo] diploma or post-secondary instruction) will be <br />separated/exited from the OCCc. Learning employer expectations and to follow standard <br />work rules and procedures, prepares them for not only entering employment but also to <br />maintain their employment. <br /> <br />The following current services will meet the needs of WIA performance standards: <br />. 32 hours each week of paid work experience; <br />. "Soft and hard" occupational skills training (habitat/park/trai] restoration, <br />construction, recycling, facility maintenance, office skills); <br />. Tutoring, study skills, instruction leading to a high schoo] diploma and to meet <br />literacy and numeracy gains; <br />. Drop-out prevention strategies (for both work and school); <br />. OCCC staff as adults mentors; <br />. Crew based and individual leadership development (crew leader training); <br />. Alternative secondary schoo] - OCCC Charter high school that combines work <br />and schoo] to facilitate completing secondary school; <br />. Support services; referrals for legal, medical, substance abuse, health, housing, <br />family/persona] guidance and counseling; help with tools, books, clothing, other <br />items needed for interviews, job requirements, advanced training, etc. <br />. Pre-employment, life skills, and transition services; <br />. Minimum of 12 month follow up services to maintain employment or find <br />new/better employment; <br />. Access to OCCC computer lab, fax, voice mail, and printer for resumes, <br />applications, financial aide, job search, job retention, on-line services; <br />. Introduction to Santa Ana WORK Center and Caljobs to facilitate use ofEDD <br />system; <br />. Certificates, A wards, Diplomas, Scholarships, and Licenses earned; <br />. Portfolios; <br />. Individual participant interviews, case notes, surveys, and informal evaluations; <br />. Additiona] trainings and workshops, (i.e. too] safety, CPR/First Aid, forklift <br />certification, Toastmasters) <br /> <br />Will the artici ant receive a certi Icate 0 or <br />DarticiDation? <br />OCCC corpsmembers may receive several certificates of completion or <br />accomplishment for participation as follows: <br />. California high schoo] diploma; <br />. AmeriCorps Education A ward (scholarship); <br />. Toastmasters Certificate (pub]ic speaking and leadership development) <br />.
