City of Santa Ana
Community Development Block Grant
Scope of Work
Name of Organization- THINK To eg ther
Name of Funded Program- Santa Ana Afterschool Proerams
Annual Accomplishment Goal
I. Total number of unduplicated clients (Santa Ana and Non-Santa Ana Residents) anticipated to be served by
the funded program, named above, during the 12-month contract period.
436 PERSONS
II. Number of only unduplicated Santa Ana residents to be served by the funded program, named above,
during the 12-month contract period.
436 PERSONS
Program and Funding Description
III. Description of Work - In the space below, describe the program to be funded during the 12-month
contract period.
The goal of the THINK Together Santa Ana Afterschool Programs provide out-of-school academic support and enrichment for low-
income Santa Ana students that encourages them to succeed in school and graduate. Adult staff and volunteers provide a safe,
supervised environment where students receive a healthy snack and then participate in an hour of academic interventions, an hour of
homework help, and an hour of enrichmenUrecreational activities between 2:30 and 6:00 each school day. Adults also serve as
mentors and positive role models for students whose academic success is impacted by poverty, language barriers, and lack of
academic help at home.
IV. Activities funded by this grant -How will CDBG funds be used for the funded program? Narratively
describe the budget for the funded program illustrated in Exhibit B and B-1.
Under the direction and supervision of the Site Coordinator at each location, THINK Together staff and volunteers work with
students one-on-one or in small groups to provide the individual attention not available during the school day. Targeted academic
interventions in literacy and math help students improve ability and comprehension in core subjects. Students receive help in
understanding and completing daily homework so they return to school prepared and ready to learn. Varied enrichment and
recreational activities round out the curriculum. The requested CDBG funds will be used to support Site Coordinator salaries at three
THINK Together afterschool programs at Heninger, Franklin, and Madison elementary schools.
Exhibit B-1 reflects [he salary and benefit costs for the Site Coordinators of THINK Together programs a[ Madison, Heninger, and
Franklin elementary schools. CDBG funding will provide approximately 6% of these costs. Program staff salaries and benefits are
the primary expense. Research has shown that the skill and stabiliTy of the staff has a direct impact on program quality and outcomes
for the students being served. CDBG funding is not requested for other program expenses.
Exhibit A
