Councilmember McGuigan: <br /> <br />- commended Mayor Pro Tem Richardson for his advocacy and support of the <br /> Boys and Gifts Club; and <br /> <br />- reported a successful book signing at Ruben Martinez' Bookstore in downtown <br /> Santa Ana for Police Officer Mona Ruiz who had authored a book describing <br /> how she had left gang life to become a police officer. <br /> <br />Councilmember Franklin: <br /> <br />- requested staffincrease enforcement against graffiti, illegal signs and banners <br /> along 17th Street between Tustin Avenue and the Interstate 5 Freeway; <br /> <br />thanked Planning and Building Agency Executive Director Robyn Uptegraff for <br />following through in addressing a customer service survey to Council and <br />indicated he looked forward to receiving the results; and <br /> <br />noted the Council was not involved in the Santa Ana Unified School District plan <br />to site a high school at 2828 N. Bristol Street and encouraged interested residents <br />to attend the District Board meeting on November 10 when the property would <br />be discussed. <br /> <br />Mayor Pulido: <br /> <br />reported he would sponsor a 2na "Santa Ana Promise" event in March 1998 to <br />encourage continued linkage and mentoring of at-risk youth by businesses, <br />neighborhoods and non-profit organizations; <br /> <br />thanked the Santa Ana Unified School District Board and Superintendent A1 <br />Mijares for advocating cooperation between neighborhood associations and <br />neighborhood school principals; and <br /> <br />expressed appreciation to Santa Ana Police Officer Mona Ruiz for her frank <br />discussion of her personal battle to improve her life and commented that she <br />served as an inspirational role model to kids. <br /> <br />9:57 P.M - Councilmembers Espinoza and Moreno left the meeting. <br /> <br />CLOSED SESSION - ROOM 147 - 9:57 P.M.-10:36 P.M. <br /> <br />The Brown Act permits the City Council to discuss certain matters without members of the public <br />present, provided the items to be discussed are posted 72 hours prior to the City Council meeting. <br />The following items were received for the November 3, 1997 Council meeting. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 323 NOVEMBER 3, 1997 <br /> <br /> <br />
