NO. 04-127)
~.vt
CITY MANAGER
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Renew the
a one-year
with.
CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY:
APPROVED
^ As Recommended
^ As Amended
^ Ordinance on 15f Reading
^ Ordinance on 2~d Reading
^ Implementing Resolution
^ Set Public Hearing For
CONTINUED TO
FILE NUMBER
contracts for equipment rental and concrete in small batches for
period in a total annual aggregate amount not to exceed $70,000
Vendor:
Rental Service Corporation
Sunstate Equipment Co. LLC
United Rentals North West Inc.
DISCUSSION
Location:
Santa Ana
Anaheim
Santa Ana
City agencies rent equipment and purchase small batch concrete for special
projects as well as for a wide variety of routine duties. It is cost-
effective for the departments to rent equipment for a one-day project in
lieu of purchasing the equipment. Rentals include, but are not limited
to: manlifts, generators, chain saws, skid steer loaders, sod cutters,
stake bed trucks with lift gates, carpet cleaners, plumbing power snakes,
electric rotary hammers, concrete trailers with double axles and electric
scissors. Concrete is purchased as batch plant mix in quantities of one-
half yard to two yards. The small batches of concrete allow quick and
easy use for repair projects where ordering a truck load is cost
prohibitive.
On November 15, 2004, the City Council awarded contracts for a one-year
period with provision for two, one-year renewals. Rental Service
Corporation and United Rentals North West, Inc., Santa Ana vendors, and
Sunstate Equipment Co. LLC have agreed to the second renewal option to the
contracts. The vendors did not request a price increase last year,
however due to increased costs in fuel, transportation and raw materials,
this year the vendors are requesting an average price increase of 11 to 22
percent. This increase is consistent with the market and staff recommends
the final renewal of the contracts.
22B-1
