<br />Pursuant tD the \VlA and Santa Ana Workforce Investment BDard requirements set forth in the <br />RFP for this application. the 30 pDtential Success Bmmd! participants will meet both current low- <br />income e]i~ibilitv and "right.tD-work" standards and also be identified as having one or more of <br />the fDllowing barners to emplovment: <br />Their basic literacy skills (reading and/or math) are at the eight.grade level or below <br />as measured on the SAT-9. TABE or an equivalent standardized test; <br />They are considered as homeless, have runaway from home or are a foster child as <br />evidenced by either school or social service records; <br />They are a pregnant or parenting teen as evidenced by school records; <br />They have a record as an offender or bave a court/agency referral mandating school <br />attendance as evidenced by county records; <br />They have never held a job and therefore have no work history as evidenced by their <br />WIA Program pre-application; <br />They live in a "high crime area" as designated by the Santa Ana Police Department; <br />Their core GP A is less than l.5 as evidenced by school records; <br />They have been suspended five or more times or have been previously expelled as <br />evidenced by school records; and/or, <br />. They are designated as a "special needs" student as evidenced by their school records <br />(e,g., enrolled in special education with a valid IEP, designated as limited English <br />proficient, etc.). <br /> <br />The above summary concludes the Executive Summary portion of this application by the Career <br />Development/ROP Department of the Santa Ana Unified School District to implement the <br />Success Bound! Program during the 2005/06 school year. <br /> <br />MAIN PURPOSE OF THE SUCCESS BOUND! PROGRAM <br /> <br />As the local public school agency for well over 100 years, the Santa Ana Unified School <br />District's mission has been to prepare Santa Ana's youth for successful adult lives. As the world <br />becomes more complex and ever higher demands for knowledge and skills are placed on high <br />school graduates, this lask becomes evermore problematic. The participants in the Success <br />Bound! program will benefil from the program by receiving an array of services to first help <br />them successfully complete their public school education, and then assist them with their <br />transition from high school to the dual spheres of higher education and the world-of-work. <br /> <br />The Success Bound! program's services and activities will take place over an anticipated period <br />of 10-12 months during their senior year. It will culminate with their graduation in June 2006. <br />The target populalion for the Success Bound! program are students with identified "at-risk" <br />factors but students who have not necessarily been previously targeted for any special services or <br />programs, Success Bound! hopes to serve "average" Santa Ana students who need that "extra <br />push" to graduate on time and enter the world as a young adult with the tools necessary to be <br />successful in both their work and educational careers. <br /> <br />During the yearlong program, participants will meet on a weekly basis with program staff at their <br />home school sites but nor durinr the /JarticiDant's instructional day. The adult mentor <br />component (which is a collaborative effort with Career Beginnings of Orange County) will meet <br />on a monthly basis usually on the third Wednesday evening of the month throughout the regular <br /> <br />9 <br />
