COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Bist <br />· thanked staff for help with the "possum issue" (explaining the role possums play in <br /> the natural environment); <br />· reported Discovery Museum would dedicate an "eco art" mural created by students <br /> from Jackson Elementary, Carr Intermediate, and Century High School on March <br /> 16, 1999; and <br /> requested the Cable Television Advisory Board to follow up on complaints about <br /> Comcast Cablevision's roalignment of its broadcast channels last month that had <br /> restricted viewing access for owners of older television sets. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tem Lutz <br />· reported he, Councilmembers Franklin and Christy, and former Assemblyman Jim <br /> Morrissey had attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new concession stand <br /> at El Salvador Park on March 13, noted the facility had been designed "in-house" <br /> by Assistant Park/Landscape Planner Susie Furjanic, and recounted a number of <br /> park improvements accomplished through the long-term efforts of the Santiago <br /> Little League. <br /> <br />Councilmember McGuigan <br />· noted that Police Officer Mona Ruiz had been featured as one of six female heroes <br /> in an Orange County Reqister Business Section article on March 15, 1999. <br /> <br />Councilmember Christy <br />· indicated her first National League of Cities Conference in early March had proven <br /> to be an excellent learning experience; and <br />· reported she had been the keynote speaker at the Sheraton Anaheim's "Kudos for <br /> Kids" recognition ceremony for academic achievers. <br /> <br />Councilmember Franklin <br />· echoed Councilmember McGuigan's compliments regarding Officer Ruiz and <br /> elaborated on Mayor Pro Tem Lutz's comments regarding the Santiago Little <br /> League accomplishments at El Salvador Park; <br />· commended the Park Santiago Neighborhood Association on its excellent <br /> Association newsletter; <br />· reported an informative meeting regarding "Y2K" had been held in the Santiago <br /> Neighborhood; <br />· noted an upcoming Arbor Day celebration and planting involving Adams and <br /> Jefferson School students and the Santa Ana Kiwanis Club on April 3 at Thornton <br /> Park, and indicated that as part of the City's recognition of Arbor Day, seedling <br /> trees would be available to residents between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at Thornton <br /> Park, Santa Ana Stadium and Morrison Park on April 3 as well; and <br />· requested that the Council meeting be adjourned in honor of 50-year resident <br /> Carlos Luis Bustamante, the father of Community Redevelopment and Housing <br /> Commissioner Carlos Bustamante, who had recently passed away. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES <br /> <br />85 MARCH 15, 1999 <br /> <br /> <br />
