ESTABLISHMENT OF A GANG PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION <br />COMMISSION (MARTINEZ, ALVAREZ, TINAJERO) <br /> <br />Amin David recommended that the City Council, in addition to establishing a <br />Commission, take steps to establish a Police Activities league, after-school <br />hour centers near schools, and provide funds to open the library in the after- <br />school hours; Melanie Flores related her experiences as a youth advocate <br />in Orange County; Ross Romero stated that he was alarmed by the <br />increased amount of graffiti; and, Alfredo Amezcua spoke of the importance <br />of the establishment of the gang prevention and intervention commission. <br /> <br />Stanley Fiala spoke in opposition to the formation of the Commission; <br />Council discussion ensued. <br /> <br />Motion: Establish a Commission to address issues related to gang prevention <br />and intervention and instruct staff to review the structure of the <br />proposed commission and prepare a resolution for Council <br />consideration in two weeks. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES <br /> <br />14 <br /> <br />JANUARY 2, 2007 <br />
