COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Christy: <br /> · commended the Santa Ana Police Department on the success of STOP (Street <br /> Terrorist Offender Program), noting the diminution of gang activity was <br /> favorably impacting home sales in Santa Aha; <br /> · reported on her recent ambassadorship on the City's behalf -- from serving as <br /> 3r~ base umpire for the Gary Templeton Little League to presenting a plaque <br /> commemorating the Juneteenth celebration (recognition of the day African <br /> slaves in Texas learned of the independence granted them in 1865 by the <br /> Emancipation Proclamation; and <br /> · expressed her appreciation to Public Works Agency Executive Director Jim <br /> Ross and staff for assistance in resolving Oak Street parking problems (the City <br /> Manager indicated staff was investigating the possibility of requiring a CUP for <br /> the Armory). <br /> <br />Mayor Pulido: <br /> · reported California Secretary of Trade and Commerce Secretary Lon Hatamiya <br /> had recently visited Santa Ana to discuss the City's potential as a site for an <br /> international trade/economic development office; <br /> · noted the Empowerment Zone tour and event at Pio Pico School had provided <br /> an opportunity for a healthy exchange between Federal and local officials; and <br /> · reported an increase in "cruising" on Bristol Street that required additional <br /> enforcement. <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT-8:12 P.M.- In honor of Barbara Berry. <br /> <br /> To 5:30 p.m. on July 6, 1999 in Room 831, City Hall, 20 Civic <br /> Center Plaza for Closed Session <br /> <br />Clerk of the Council <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 205 JUNE 21, 1999 <br /> <br /> <br />
