COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Moreno: <br />· requested an update on the City's abandoned vehicle abatement program; <br />· instructed the Clerk to place the removal of street parking on Fourth Street between <br /> French and Poinsettia on the Agenda for the next televised Council meeting; <br />· asked for staff assistance in deferring trash pick-up in the Saddleback View <br /> Neighborhood from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.; <br />· expressed concern regarding the cost to the City for crowd control stemming from a <br /> controversial art exhibit at the Bowers Museum and requested staff provide him a <br /> summary of public safety expenditures; and <br />· asked constituents to call him at 836-0334 with any concerns regarding municipal <br /> matters. <br /> <br />Councilmember Bist: <br />· reported a recently painted pavement"STOP" sign at Russell and Parton approximately <br /> 4' from the original was confusing; and <br />· noted 50% of the Wilshire Square street lights would remain out of commission until mid- <br /> September while the area was being re-wired. <br /> <br />Councilmember Lutz: <br />· reported vehicle parking on a vacant lot at Santa Ana Boulevard and Garfield Street; <br />· informed the audience the Park Santiago Neighborhood was sponsoring a concert <br /> beginning at 5:00 p.m. on July 11 to benefit the Kidseum and that details could be <br /> obtained by calling the Council Services Office at 647-6900. <br /> <br />Councilmember McGuigan: <br />· reported the Pacific Symphony Orchestra was giving a free concert followed by fireworks <br /> at Centennial Park on July 17 between 6:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. in Centennial Park; <br />· commended staff on the impressive July 4'h fireworks display at Centennial Park; and <br />· noted the Santa Ana Fire Department would host over 2700 visiting fire fighters and their <br /> families at the upcoming California Firemen's Olympics and wished the Santa Ana Fire <br /> team good luck in the competition. <br /> <br />Councilmember Christy: <br />· lead the Council and audience in a standing ovation to recognize Police Chief Paul <br /> Walters' attainment of an FBI Award of Excellence; <br />· reported her attendance at the Black Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet and <br /> conveyed the Chamber's appreciation for the Mayoral proclamation commemorating the <br /> event; <br />· congratulated Irene Martinez and the Delhi Neighborhood on receiving an $800,000.00 <br /> grant from the State of California for development of a community center at Delhi Park; <br /> and <br />· joined Councilmember McGuigan in commending Recreation staff, particularly Rip Ribble <br /> and Donna Schultze, on an outstanding July 4~h event at Centennial Park; and <br />· wished Officer Bob Reed who had been injured in a vehicle accident a speedy recovery. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL AGENDA <br /> <br />228 JULY 6,1999 <br /> <br /> <br />
