<br />Sec. 2-552. Police Chief duties. <br /> <br />It shall be the duty of the Police Chief, and/or his/her designee, to report to the <br />Commission all information and data available to him/her which can be of <br />assistance to the deliberations of the Commission and shall advise the Commission <br />on any issues on which they require assistance and/or guidance. <br /> <br />Sec. 2-553. Organization, meetings. <br /> <br />(a) The Commission shall elect from its voting members a chairperson <br />and vice chairperson, each of whom shall serve in such position for the term of one <br />(1) year. No member shall serve in the position of chairperson for more than one <br />term. <br /> <br />(b) The Commission shall establish rules and procedures for its <br />meetings. It shall hold at least one (1) regular meeting each month, with a <br />minimum of four meetings per year held within the various wards of the city. <br /> <br />(c) The Commission may form committees and sub-committees as it <br />may deem valuable for the work of the Commission. It may also organize task <br />forces of community members to analyze critical issues, evaluate emerging trends <br />and facilitate collaboration among local law enforcement, education, social services <br />and community organizations within the Commission's areas of responsibilities. <br /> <br />Sec. 2-554. Responsibilities and Duties of Commission <br /> <br />The Commission shall have the following powers and duties: <br /> <br />(a) Promote a strong sense of community through advocacy and <br />recommendation of proactive policies, ordinances, and guidelines for early <br />prevention and intervention of youth exposure to the influence of gangs. <br /> <br />(b) Identify gang prevention solutions that are part of a comprehensive <br />plan and do not require funding. <br /> <br />(c) Make policy recommendations to City Council on gang prevention, <br />intervention, diversion and suppression methods. <br /> <br />(d) Identify local, state, and federal funding sources for front line law <br />enforcement intervention and prevention. They shall also collaborate with boards, <br />agencies, and residents on gang issues. <br /> <br />(e) Consider all matters that may be referred to it by the City Councilor <br />the city manager and shall render its recommendations, counsel and advice in <br />regards thereto; <br /> <br />Ordinance No. NS-_ <br />Page 4 of 7 <br /> <br />11 8-4 <br />
