<br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 5, 2007 <br /> <br />TITLE: <br />REAPPOINTMENT OF WORKFORCE <br />INVESTMENT BOARD MEMBERS <br /> <br />APPROVED <br />o As Recommended <br />o As Amended <br />o Ordinance on 1" Reading <br />o Ordinance on 2"' Reading <br />o Implementing Resolution <br />o Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />C~ <br /> <br />afgCf- <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Reappoint Brent Beasley, Phil Campanelli, Mike Kanda, Patrick Korthuis, <br />Donna Lin, Wil Ortega, Andy Wadhera and Alfredo Zarate, Jr. to the Santa <br />Ana Workforce Investment Board for four-year terms. <br /> <br />WORKFORCE INVESMENT BOARD ACTION <br /> <br />At its Regular Meeting on January 12, 2007, the Workforce Investment <br />Board by a vote of 19: 0 (Beasley, Conrad, Didion, Lacroix, Lewis, Meza, <br />Quarles, Ray, Wadhera, Whipple absent) recommended that the City Council <br />reappoint Brent Beasley, Phil Campanelli, Mike Kanda, Patrick Korthuis, <br />Donna Lin, Wil Ortega, Andy Wadhera and Alfredo Zarate, Jr. to the Santa <br />Ana Workforce Investment Board for four-year terms. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />On March 6, 2000, the Santa Ana City Council adopted a resolution <br />establishing the Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board and appointed 35 <br />members. In accordance with the federal legislation, a maj ori ty of the <br />Board members and the Board Chair must represent the private sector. The <br />remaining Board members represent education, non-profit organizations, <br />one-stop mandated partners and local labor organizations. <br /> <br />Currently, there are ten board members whose terms expire March 2007. <br />Eight of these board members are being recommended for reappointment and <br />have expressed an interest in being reappointed to the Santa Ana <br />Workforce Investment Board for an additional four-year term. The members <br />seeking reappointment are: Brent Beasley, Business Manager, Roofers and <br />Waterproofers Local 220; Phil Campanelli, General Manager, Embassy Suites <br />Hotel; Mike Kanda, Director of Human Resources, Textron Fastening <br />Systems; Patrick Korthuis, Owner, Sir Speedy Printing; Donna Lin, <br /> <br />138-1 <br />
