WORK STUDY SESSION <br /> <br />Councilmember Moreno left the meeting at 7:09 p.m. <br /> <br />WS.A. EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS UPDATE <br /> <br />Fire Chief Mare Martin discussed the City's Emergency Preparedness program <br />emphasizing five key areas and describing the roles of Council and City staff: <br /> <br />SEMS (Standardized Emergency Management System) <br />Emergency Preparedness Committee <br />Emergency Operations Center <br />Council Responsibilities <br />Millennium Plan <br /> <br />Martin concluded his presentation with a discussion of plans for the night of <br />December 31, 1999 - January 1,2000 indicating: <br /> <br />· the Police Department will be on Tactical Alert; <br />· the Fire Department will have increased staffing; and <br />· additional logistical support will be available through mutual aid within the City's <br /> operational area. <br /> <br />Resident Claudia Riewaldt expressed interest in assisting as a participant in the <br />Emergency Preparedness Committee or other capacity, as appropriate. <br /> <br />Councilmember McGuigan thanked the Fire Chief for an excellent and enlightening <br />presentation. <br /> <br />COMMENTS <br /> <br />90.A. PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> <br />Anthony Trujillo announced a Light Rail perspectives debate will be held on August <br />23, 1999 at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), featuring representatives from <br />the Orange County Transportation Authority and UCI.
