REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />FEBRUARY 5, 2007 <br />TITLE: <br />AGREEMENT FOR POLICE <br />DEPARTMENT JAIL INMATE <br />DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAM <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 1~` Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2ntl Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and the <br />Clerk of the Council to renew the agreement with Rancho Santiago Community <br />College District to provide registration and class materials for the Jail <br />inmates enrolling in Distance Learning Classes in an annual amount not to <br />exceed $25,000. <br />The Santa Ana Jail provides various educational classes for the inmates. <br />One of the programs offered by the Jail is the opportunity for inmates to <br />obtain an Associate of Arts Degree through Santa Ana College. Under the <br />recommended agreement, the Rancho Santiago Community College District will <br />provide up to eight general education type classes with a minimum <br />enrollment of 16 inmates per class. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Funds are available in the Police Department, Inmate Welfare Fund Other <br />Contractual Services account (account no. 023-349-6291). <br />APPROVED AS TO FUNDS AND ACCOUNTS: <br /> <br />Paul M.
