The Civic Center has 1,053 <br />trees. Annual pruning of the trees restores their visual appearance and <br />removes any safety hazards. In addition, the normal maintenance program <br />designed to keep the trees healthy includes an International Society of <br />Arboriculture Certified Arborist to supervise the Class I fine pruning of <br />the City trees. <br />The notice inviting bids was advertised on December 4 and 6, 2006, and bids <br />were solicited. A summary of the bid invitations and bids received is as <br />follows: <br />18 Invitations For Bid mailed <br />5 Invitations For Bid mailed to Santa Ana vendors <br />3 Bids received <br />Bids were received, opened on December 22, 2006, and evaluated (Exhibit 1). <br />Staff contacted the Santa Ana vendors, who all indicated that the scope of <br />the work was beyond their current capacity. The bid received from Great <br />Scott Tree Service, Inc., is responsive to the specification and meets the <br />City's requirements. <br />22B-1 <br />
