They are encouraged to keep this card with them
while working. One side has a diagram indicating where and how a Crossing Guard positions
themselves in an intersection. The other side lists fifteen safe crossing techniques. The cards come in
both Spanish and English and are quick notes of some of the points covered in their Employee
Handbook.

Site Performance Evaluation (Exhibit "C") -The next formal training all Crossing Guards must
undergo is the Site Performance Evaluation (see sample form, Exhibit B). The Area Supervisor or
Safety Supervisor conducts site Performance Evaluations at the intersection the Crossing Guard
normally works. Each Crossing Guard is given a "Site Performance Evaluation" two times per school
year. This evaluation is 'usedas an instructional tool to validate correct procedures and correct
inappropriate procedures. Any Crossing Guard receiving a low score on a Site performance Evaluation
is re-evaluatedby another Area Supervisor, Safety supervisor or the Operations Manager within thirty
days. Unless appropriate improvement is noted such Crossing Guards are subject to disciplinary action
or dismissal.

Certification (Exhibit "D") _ Within the first year of employment each. Crossing Guard must
complete Safety Certification. This Certification focuses on current issues and safety procedures to
help Crossing Guards protect themselves and the children from injury and accidents. The initial
Certification Course incorporates classroom instruction, video presentations, onsite instruction and a
written test Any individual that does not pass the Certification will be re-tested in thirty (30) days.
Failure to pass the re-test may lead to termination.

Re-Certification (Exhibit "E") _ All ACMS employees must be re-certified each year to continue
employment with ACMS. The General Manager, Operations Manager and the Safety Supervisors meet
annually to develop the Re-Certification standards for the year.

Re-Certification has covered a variety of topics over the years, including testing for agility, instructing
on methods of controlling the intersection, emergency procedures and appropriate Crossing Guard
conduct. All Crossing Guards must successfully complete Re-Certification to continue employment
with ACMS. If a Crossing Guard receives less than a minimum score, the guard will be retrained and
re-tested. If the subsequent score does not improve the CrossingGuard is subject to termination.

2
