<br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />MARCH OS, 2007 <br />TITLE: <br /> <br />AGREEMENT WITH <br />NEW CINGULAR WIRELESS <br />ACCOUNTS FOR WIRELESS <br />EQUIPMENT <br /> <br />NATIONAL <br />SERVICES AND <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />D As Recommended <br />D As Amended <br />D Ordinance on 1 sl Reading <br />D Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />D Implementing Resolution <br />D Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />(2y;/.a~ <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager to <br />sign a participating addendum with New Cingular Wireless National <br />Accounts, LLC under a master agreement with the Western States <br />Contracting Alliance for wireless communications service and equipment <br />for a period beginning January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2010 in an amount <br />not to exceed $350,000 per year. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The Police Department currently employs wireless data communications <br />from Cingular Wireless to link officers in the field with computerized <br />systems. These systems allow officers to obtain critical information <br />faster and in visual format which greatly assists them in the <br />performance of their duties. The wireless links also enable field-based <br />officers to submit reports and other administrative documentation <br />without leaving the field. This aids the productivity patrol/policing <br />activities. The Fire Department is in the process of implementing a <br />wireless data based system to communicate with its vehicles in the <br />field. Other City Agencies including Planning and Building, and <br />Communi ty Development, employ wireless data communications to improve <br />the delivery of services to the community. <br /> <br />To provide wireless data communications, the City utilizes services from <br />New Cingular Wireless National Accounts LLC under an agreement through <br />the Western States Contracting Alliance (WSCA). This agreement has just <br />been re-competed and negotiated as of December 2006. As a member, the <br />State of California extends eligibility to join to cities in the state. <br />This contract with New Cingular Wireless National Accounts LLC provides <br />extremely competitive pricing with protections on future price <br />increases. The City may terminate at any time, without penalty, with 30 <br />days notice. <br /> <br />25A-1 <br />
