Since it's opening, use of the facility has been <br />extended to all City employees. The center is heavily used; the 40-member <br />SWAT team is allocated three hours per week to train in the fitness center <br />and the 10-member Strike Force is required to use 25 percent of their work <br />hours involved in fitness or tactics training. In all, approximately 300 <br />employees are certified to use the facility. Four of the treadmills <br />currently in use at the fitness center are over nine years old and, <br />according to the manufacturer, have a useable life span of 5 years. <br /> <br />The notice inviting bids was advertised on March 21 and 23, 2007, and bids <br />were solicited. A summary of the bid invitations and bids received is as <br />follows: <br /> <br />13 Invitations For Bid mailed <br />1 Invitation For Bid mailed to a Santa Ana vendor <br />4 Bids received <br /> <br />Bids were received, opened on March 28, 2007 and evaluated (Exhibit 1). <br />The bid received from LA Gym Equipment is responsive to the specifications <br />and meets the City's requirements. Staff contacted the Santa Ana vendor <br />who stated they were not an authorized distributor of the treadmills <br />specified. <br /> <br />220-1 <br />
