4.1rl <br />• Announced that "Sights and Sounds of Santa Ana" will be held on <br />September 22-24, 2000 with a jazz cabaret and art preview at the <br />I Masonic Temple on Sycamore Street, a Plein Air art exhibition at the <br />Bowers Museum, and the Jazz and Blues Festival at the Santa Ana <br />Zoo on Sunday, September 24tn <br />Councilmember Lutz <br />• Announced that the Santa Ana High School "all years" reunion will be <br />Held at Irvine Regional Park on September 9, 2000 from 11:00 a.m. to <br />4:00 p.m. <br />• Reminded constituents that the Treasures of the Forbidden City exhibit <br />at the Bowers Museum was leaving, but will return to Santa Ana in <br />2001 following exhibits at four other cities in the United States. <br />Councilmember McGuigan <br />• Announced that on Saturday, September 9, 2000, a fundraiser will be <br />held beginning at 8:00 a.m. in Thornton Park for a part time City <br />Employee — Lupe Martinez who required surgery due to a brain tumor. <br />Councilmember Christy <br />• Mentioned that at the final event at the Bowers Museum, guests <br />heard twelve tunes from the music box given to the Emperor. <br />• Announced that ComLink was hosting a candidates forum, moderated <br />by the League of Women Voters, in the City Council Chambers on <br />September 21, 2000 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. <br />• Briefed the Council and citizens relative to three recent trips to <br />Mexicali and Calexico, Mexico to support efforts to improve the quality <br />of life of homeless children, to recognize graduating instructors for <br />contributions to D.A.R.E., and to attend a fund raising dinner for the <br />construction of a homeless shelter. <br />Councilmember Franklin <br />• Requested that the Historic Resources Commission review the <br />possibility of placing plaques on historic buildings in the City. <br />• Requested that staff work with Comcast to add Fox News West <br />Channel to Santa Ana cable service. <br />• Noted that development has begun on improvements in the new <br />Cornerstone Village and recommended that citizens take the <br />opportunity to view the changes that are being made in the Minnie <br />Street area. <br />• Suggested that the Empowerment Zone status report presented at the <br />Work Study session on August 21, 2000, be given again during a <br />televised meeting of the City Council so that residents can be informed <br />of the accomplishments achieved by the Empowerment Zone Board. <br />• Reported that the Floral Park Summer Concert was a successful <br />summer event. <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 282 SEPTEMBER 5, 2000 <br />
