<br />REQU EST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br />MAY 21, 2007 <br /> <br />TITLE: <br /> <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />o As Recommended <br />o As Amended <br />o Ordinance on 1" Reading <br />o Ordinance on 2'" Reading <br />o Implementing Resolution <br />o Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />AGREEMENT WITH COUNTY OF ORANGE <br />PROBATION DEPARTMENT FOR JUVENILE <br />COURT WORK PROGRAM SERVICES <br /> <br />(2jl)/2 <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and <br />Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with the County of Orange <br />probation Department to utilize the Juvenile Court Work Program for <br />graffiti removal and park maintenance services in an amount not to exceed <br />$35,000. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The County of Orange established the Juvenile Court Work Program to <br />provide juvenile offenders with a meaningful alternative to <br />incarceration. In lieu of serving an institutional commitment in <br />Juvenile Hall or a juvenile camp, young men and women between the ages of <br />15 to 21 are allowed to complete the Work Program. This agreement will <br />allow the City to partner with the County to provide young offenders with <br />an opportunity to fulfill their probationary violation sentence by <br />performing graffiti removal, weed abatement, and other unskilled <br />maintenance functions in City parks and facilities.
