REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />JUNE 4, 2007 <br />TITLE: <br />AGREEMENT WITH COUNTY OF ORANGE <br />SOCIAL SERVICES AGENCY FOR <br />WELFARE-TO-WORK EMPLOYMENT <br />SERVICES PROGRAMS <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 1" Reading <br />^ Ordinance on Intl Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and <br />the Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with the County of <br />Orange Social Services Agency to accept funding in the amount of $631,970 <br />for an Employment Services Program to be operated by the City of Santa <br />Ana WORK Center. <br />DISCUSSION <br />For the past six years, the City of Santa Ana WORK Center has received <br />funding from the County of Orange Social Services Agency to operate a <br />Community Services Program and a Work Experience Program. On January 1, <br />2007, the Social Services Agency (SSA) combined the two programs to <br />provide better services to the Ca1WORKS Welfare-to-Work participants. <br />For fiscal year 2007-2008, SSA has awarded the City of Santa Ana WORK <br />Center $631,970 to fund On-the-Job Training, Work Experience, and <br />Vocational Training to Ca1WORKS participants, which will assist Ca1WORKs <br />participants to develop skills that will enable them to find and retain <br />stable employment. <br />251-1 <br />
