CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Sarmiento <br />• Thanked everyone who took part in the Nutrition and Fitness Fair and <br />commended Councilmember Martinez for her commitment to youth <br />• Noted that KTLA television station reported that Santa Ana was the #1 <br />City for dog bites on mail carriers <br />• Noted that it was important to assign someone in the City to the role of <br />Public Information Officer so that the City's story is accurately told <br />• Asked the Council to adjourn in memory of Werner John Bigalke who <br />was a volunteer at the Santa Ana Zoo <br />Councilmember Martinez <br />• Congratulated the High School and College Classes of 2007 <br />• Thanked the Empowerment Zone for providing funding for jobs for <br />youth this summer <br />• Invited the City's youth to attend a Summer Bash on May 25th in the <br />Council Chambers <br />• Thanked everyone who attended the Fitness fair <br />Councilmember Bustamante <br />• Emphasized the need for a Public Information Officer, on a part time <br />basis <br />• Noted that there was a new sign on South Main Street designating the <br />South Main Shopping District <br />• Asked staff to look at the feasibility of constructing a pedestrian bridge <br />over Main Street at Main Place <br />Mavor Pro Tem Alvarez <br />• Invited residents to visit any of the City's fire stations on May 23rd to <br />thank firefighters for the work they provide in the City <br />• Noted that the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new turf at Eddie West <br />Stadium was very successful <br />• Asked Chief Walters to explain how he was going to deploy the officers <br />added to fight gang violence <br />• Congratulated former Mayor Pro Tem Lisa Bist for her efforts in <br />obtaining the arch at Main Street <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 184 MAY 21, 2007 <br />
