REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />JUNE 18, 2007 <br />TITLE: <br />JOB SEARCH SYSTEMS SUBSCRIPTION <br />~i = -~ 1 <br />l~s <br />CI MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on t~` Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2ntl Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and <br />the Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with Geographic <br />Solutions in an amount not to exceed $39,000 to subscribe to an on-line <br />job search system. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Since 2002, the Santa Ana WORK Center has utilized an on-line job search <br />system called the Virtual One Stop developed by Geographic Solutions to <br />assist the WORK Center in providing necessary and vital services to job <br />seekers as required by the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). This system <br />allows job seekers access to jobs and services offered by the Santa Ana <br />Work Center. All on-line services are offered in both Spanish and <br />English. Santa Ana Work Center staff is also able to make use of case <br />management tools provided by Geographic Solutions through the on-line <br />system. <br />The virtual one-stop system, developed by Geographic Solutions, provides <br />access to a comprehensive array of services for job seekers, training <br />providers, benefit applicants, businesses and students. These services <br />are integrated at a user-friendly site that provides information on <br />available programs and services, training programs, labor market <br />information, job listings and financial assistance. The site is also a <br />valuable tool for employers who are finding it difficult to attract <br />qualified employees. Santa Ana businesses will be able to list all of <br />their job openings on the site and receive qualified resumes. Students <br />at Santa Ana Community College and the Santa Ana Unified School District <br />will also be able to access the system for career guidance at no cost. <br />25D-1 <br />
