PUBLIC HEARINGS <br />Public hearing to consider the City's Fiscal Year 2007-2008 Budget and <br />related matters <br />Legal Notice published in the Orange County Register on May 25 and <br />June 1.2007 <br />Continued from the June 4, 2007 City Council Meeting by a vote of 7-0 <br />No written communication <br />Art Pedroza, Laura Morfin, Dr. Ana Jimenez, and Silvia Hernandez spoke <br />in opposition to the expenses in the proposed budget for the Bowers <br />Museum and/or the Chamber of Commerce; Stanley Fiala spoke in <br />support of funding for the Bowers Museum. <br />The following speakers spoke in support of additional funding for youth <br />programs in the City: Alex Flores, Juanito Flores, Lupe Garcia, Leticia <br />Vargas, Donna Smith, and Mario Guerrero. <br />Stephanie Rosas expressed the need for increased funding for road <br />repairs; Virginia Avila stressed the need for more funding for parks; Gary <br />Boatwright stated that too much money was allocated for the police <br />budget. Lisann Martinez listed concerns relative to the proposed budget <br />Public Hearing was closed. <br />Council discussion ensued. Councilmember Martinez stressed the <br />importance of investing in the City's youth and suggested that the Budget <br />be amended to include the following Changes: <br />• Youth Employment -addition of $600,000 <br />• Recreation (Summer Youth Sports Camps) -addition of $150,000 <br />Neighborhood Development (Community Art Murals) -addition of <br />$50,000 <br />• Bookmobile and Reading Program - (expansion of the Bookmobile <br />and reading program) <br />Council discussion continued. Mayor Pro Tem Alvarez introduced a <br />motion, seconded by Councilmember Bustamante, to approve the budget <br />as amended to include the changes listed below (motion identified as <br />Exhibit A) with the savings realized from these changes to be designated <br />for unfunded retirement/pension obligations: <br />Exhibit A <br />Workforce Changes (Additions Section, Budget Discussion Book pp. 16- <br />17) <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 217 JUNE 18, 2007 <br />
