COMMENTS <br /> <br />· Thanked all the neighborhood heroes recognized at the Council <br /> meeting and reminded residents to recognize and thank the heroes of <br /> their respective neighborhoods <br />· Welcomed Ron Wildermuth, Public Information Officer, Orange <br /> County Water District to the Friends of the Santa Ana Zoo Board of <br /> Directors; he noted that prior to coming to the Water District Mr. <br /> Wildermuth served as public relations advisor to General H. Norman <br /> Schwarzkopf during the Gulf War. He further asked staff to send a <br /> letter of welcome to Mr. Wildermuth <br />· Noted that the 4th of July affords an opportunity to be thankful for all the <br /> men and women in the armed services <br /> <br />Councilmember Solorio: <br />· Thanked the Police and Fire Departments for the very successful <br /> Police and Fire Games held the week of June 16-22, 2002 <br />· Asked residents to use only safe and sane fireworks this 4th of July <br /> holiday <br />· Invited residents to come to Lillie King Park on the 4th of July between <br />the hours of 1-6 p.m. for family fun <br />· Announced that the State of the City address would be hosted by the <br />Chamber of Commerce at the Doubletree Hotel in Santa Ana on July <br />24, 2002 <br /> <br />Councilmember Bist: <br />· Gave residents the phone number to call for questions about the <br /> Wilshire Square Concert to be held July 27, 2002 <br />· Noted that many people did not know that the City has its own animal <br /> shelter at Grand and 17th and advised residents looking for their lost <br /> pets to call this shelter before calling the County Shelter; she also <br /> noted that the animal shelter was seeking volunteers <br />· Wished everyone a safe July 4th celebration <br /> <br />Councilmember Christy: <br />· Congratulated the Police and Fire Chiefs on the success of the games <br /> hosted by Santa Ana and noted that many charities will receive funds <br /> from this event <br />· Congratulated the Boys and Girls Club for the successful "Ride the <br /> Coast" event and noted that over 500 people attended this event <br />· Asked Rip Ribble, Executive Director, Parks and Recreation to give an <br /> update on the fireworks show to be held in Centennial Park on July 4th <br />· Noted that this was the first 4th of July following the terrorists attacks of <br /> 9/11 <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 257 JULY t, 2002 <br /> <br /> <br />
