REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />AUGUST 6, 2007 <br />TITLE: <br />AGREEMENT FOR ANIMAL SHELTER <br />SERVICES WITH THE COUNTY OF <br />ORANGE <br />ITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 1s' Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2n° Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and the <br />Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with the County of Orange to <br />provide animal care shelter services in an annual amount not to exceed <br />$635,071. <br />DISCUSSION <br />On January 6, 2003, the Council approved actions for the City's transition <br />of operating its own shelter to the County of Orange Animal Shelter as a <br />contracted service. At that time, City staff evaluated several options to <br />provide animal care shelter services. It was determined that contracting <br />with the Orange County Shelter was the most cost effective means of <br />providing quality service to the City. <br />For FY 2007-2008, the contract amount is estimated not to exceed $635,071. <br />The total actual payments to the County of Orange will be based on actual <br />usage of the services.
