COMMENTS <br /> <br />90.B. <br /> <br />Zeke Hernandez announced that there would be several memorial events <br />on Wednesday, September 11th, and he spoke in support of the union <br />proposals for part-time employees. Additionally, Eleazar Elizondo and <br />Mike Garcia also addressed Council in support of the proposals for a <br />benefit enrichment fund and paid leave for part-time workers. <br /> <br />Robert Henson Jr. addressed Council relative to a dangerous traffic <br />condition at Harbor and Kent and requested that the Council consider the <br />installation of a traffic signal. <br /> <br />Veronica Gonzales, Stephanie Daniels, and Dave Hoen, representing <br />Families for Education First expressed concern relative to Iow performing <br />schools within Santa Ana and the lack of information from the School <br />District about federal initiatives <br /> <br />Glen Stroud invited the Council and residents to attend the concert in the <br />park sponsored by the Morrison Park, Fisher Park, Floral Park, Casa de <br />Santiago, Riverview, Washington Square, and River Glen Neighborhood <br />Associations on Saturday, September 21, 2002 from 6 P.M. to 10 P.m.. <br />He further noted that he could not support the requests by the unions for <br />part-time employees because of the lack of sufficient funds for existing <br />programs <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Alvarez <br /> · Thanked the SEIU for addressing the Council and urged them to <br /> return to the negotiating table with the City <br /> · Announced that the kickoff for the campaign "One book, one City" <br /> will be held on September 20, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Plaza of the <br /> Sun, and that the selected book, Steinbeck's "The Pearl" is <br /> available in Spanish and English <br /> · Announced that her morning at the Zoo, "Breakfast with Claudia <br /> AIvarez" is scheduled for Saturday, September 7, 2002 from 8:30 <br /> a.m. to 10:00 a.m. <br /> · Thanked the state legislators for the new state budget and thanked <br /> Assemblyman Lou Correa and Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez <br /> for all their support of the City <br /> · Asked staff to look at ways to make the City more efficient and to <br /> look at cost saving measures in the various departments <br /> · Thanked the individuals who spoke in support of improving the <br /> quality of schools in the City <br /> · Encouraged all residents to get involved in the upcoming election <br /> process <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 328 SEPTEMBER 3, 2002 <br /> <br /> <br />
