Adopt a resolution supporting the Orangeline Project with the <br />Orangeline Development Authority for the purpose of promoting the High <br />Speed Maglev system from North Los Angeles County to Orange County. <br />2. Authorize staff to seek Measure M funding in the amount of $52,320 in <br />Fiscal Year 2007-08 to pay for the annual membership fee in the <br />Orangeline Development Authority and to seek future funding to cover the <br />annual fee. <br />3. Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager <br />and Clerk of the Council to execute the First Amended Joint Exercise of <br />Powers Agreement with the Orangeline Development Authority for the <br />purpose of promoting the development of the Orangeline High Speed Maglev <br />system from North Los Angeles County to Orange County. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Orangeline Development Authority ("Authority") is a joint exercise <br />of powers authority currently comprised of fourteen Los Angeles and <br />Orange County cities, which has been established to examine the <br />feasibility of constructing a high speed maglev (magnetic levitation) <br />system in Southern California (Exhibit 1). <br />As currently planned, the Orangeline Maglev Project (Orangeline) would <br />travel on an elevated guideway above existing highway or railroad <br />corridors at up to 240 miles per hour, with an average speed of 90 miles <br />per hour in urban areas.
