REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />SEPTEMBER 17, 2007 <br />TITLE: <br />APPROPRIATION ADJUSTMENT <br />ACCEPTING LIBRARY SERVICES <br />AND TECfIIJOLOGY ACT PUBLIC <br />LIBRARY STAFF EDUCATION FUNDS <br />CIT ANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 15` Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Approve an appropriation adjustment accepting Federal Library Services <br />and Technology Act funds for the Public Library Staff Education Program <br />of $10,470 in revenue account (account no. 154-01-5361) and appropriate <br />the funds to expenditure accounts (account nos. 154-215-6221 to provide <br />reimbursement for library staff. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Library Services and Technology Act of 1996 created the Public <br />Library Staff Education Program to provide tuition reimbursement for <br />library employees who are enrolled in a library science degree or <br />certificate program. Santa Ana Public Library has participated in the <br />Public Library Staff Education Program since its inception and has been <br />awarded funding for this year to reimburse three staff members currently <br />enrolled in Masters in Library Science programs for costs related to that <br />education. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />The appropriation adjustment will enhance the library services revenue <br />account (account no. 154-01-5361) and the expenditure appropriation for <br />the Public Library Staff Education Program training and transportation <br />and indirect cost (account no. 154-215-6221). <br />APPROVED AS TO FUNDS AND ACCOUNTS: <br />R chard Francisco Gutierrez C~ <br />Executive Director Executive Director <br />Library Finance & Management Services Agency <br />20B-1 <br />
