Relampago del Cielo, Inc. has provided class room education and instruction in the folkloric dances of the regions of Mexico for over 30 years. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced classes are offered to students who are primarily youth from the City of Santa Ana. The organization also reinstated beginning and advanced dance classes for adults. The adult classes boast alumni who have returned to the group to continue their education of baile folkl6rico. City of Santa Ana Scope of Work Relampago del Cielo, Inc. Relampago del CieJo Grupo Folkl6rico The Community Development Block Grant has been an important source of funding that has allowed for reduced class rates, the purchase of costumes, and additional instructors and staff. ROC currently has 155 students enrolled in its program, and has served 172 students as of the third quarter of 06-07. We also provide opportunities for students to perform at many public and private events. Relampago del Cielo believes students develop a sense of cultural pride through learning the techniques and style of folkloric dance, which will in turn contribute to improved self esteem and self confidence. The organization also strongly believes that its program serves as a deterrent to drugs and gangs for students who dedicate and commit themselves to the art. Students are given the opportunity to give back to their community by performing for civic events, most of which take place in the City of Santa Ana. An annual recital is held toward the end of the calendar year, typically taking place in the month of November.
