Description of Work - In the space below, describe the program to be funded during the 12-month contract period. <br />What specific activities will be undertaken during the contract period. Only the <br />viewable space will print. <br />The program will enhance the academic development of students, build their self-esteem and provide a safe learning <br />enviornment where youth will learn positive and productive skills that can help divert youth from negative social <br />behaviors. Students that attend the learning academy consistently will improve in the following ways: a) improve <br />students reading/literacy levels and perform better at school as measured by reading assessment data; b.) <br />help students increase their levels of self-confidence and self-esteem as measured by student and parent <br />data. c. Improve the quality of life of students with learning disabilities to reach their maximum potential in life! The 3 <br />most important goals of our Learning Academy program are: 1) to provide a safe, nurturing, and optimal learning <br />environment for Santa Ana students wih disabilities during after-school hours to get help with homework and <br />literacy support to help improve their academic development; 2) to teach new artisitc skills to youth that will <br />teach them positive and productive behaviors that build self-esteem and self-confidence; and, 3) to motivate <br />and encourage youth to engage daily in our after-school program to prevent them from engaging in negative <br />social behaviors that lead to juvenile delinquency, drugs, teen pregnancy, and others. The Arts is a powerful <br />force that helps engage students, motivates youth, and builds self-esteem. The After-school Learning Academy <br />program will provide services to children and youth 4 days per week, 3 hours each day for a period of one <br />year. Students will receive help wih homework, structured tutoring with reading and writing and an arts <br />enrichment activity every day they attend. <br /> <br />The Learning Academy program is staffed by bilingual, credentialed teachers, para-professionals, arts Instructors, <br />and community volunteers. <br /> <br />Schedule of Performace <br />Estimate the number of ONLY unduplicated Santa Ana residents to be served by the funded program during the 12- <br />month contract period per quarter.
