<br />of salary for the first three (3) days of such <br />absence and sick leave shall not be debited. <br /> <br />D. Limit. The maximum total accumulation of sick leave with <br />pay shall be 1600 hours. Sick leave usage of less than a <br />full day shall be charged in minimum increments of one- <br />half (1/2) hour, with fractional usage rounded upward to <br />the next higher multiple of one-half (1/2). <br /> <br />E. Extended. The City Manager may grant leave up to six <br />months without pay to an employee who has exhausted all <br />of his or her accrued sick leave if the City physician or <br />a licensed physician designated by the City Manager <br />indicates that the employee will be sufficiently <br />recovered to return to his or her employment within a six <br />(6) months period. Prior to the expiration of the <br />additional time, the employee may return to his or her <br />position provided that he or she has a certificate from <br />one of the above mentioned physicians stating that the <br />employee is able to perform all the duties of his or her <br />position without qualification. In addition to the above, <br />the City Manager may grant a further extension not to <br />exceed a total of one (1) year without pay. <br /> <br />F. Extension by Use of Vacation. After an employee's sick <br />leave has been exhausted, he or she may be granted <br />permission to take any earned vacation he or she may have <br />accrued. <br /> <br />G. Notice. The employee taking sick leave shall notify his <br />or her immediate supervisor riot less than one (1) hour <br />prior to the time he or she is scheduled to report for <br />duty. When the absence is more than three (3) consecutive <br />working days, the employee must present to the Police <br />Chief a physician's certificate stating the cause of <br />illness and that, in the physician's opinion, the <br />employee could not report to work because of such illness <br />or injury and that the employee is sufficiently recovered <br />to safely return to work. Such certificate shall be <br />transmitted to the chief personnel officer with the <br />report of the return of the employee to work. <br /> <br />A physician's certificate or other satisfactory written <br />evidence of actual illness or injury may be required <br />after an absence of any duration of less than three (3) <br />days. <br /> <br />H. Denial. No employee shall be entitled to sick leave with <br /> <br />40 <br />
