<br />Orange County Conservation Corps <br />Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board <br />Request for proposal <br />The Youth Service Provider Network <br />PY 2007/2008 <br /> <br />Program Description <br />Describe the overall services that will be made available to the WIA participant. <br />Following are the overall services that will be made available to all WIA participants: <br /> <br />OUTREACH/RECRUITMENT (ongoing as previously described on pages 2-4) <br /> <br />ORIENTATION (One week, 40 hour training) <br />1. Introduction to OCCC Program <br />2. Review corpsmember policies and procedures <br />3. Complete 8 hours of community activism awareness <br />4. Complete 8 hours of conservation awareness <br />5. Learn proper tool use and safety <br />6. Receive first aide/CPR certification <br />7. Perform 8 hours of hands-on field work <br /> <br />Once corpsmembers are hired and successfully complete orientation, they enter the <br />following OCCC program components: <br /> <br />PAID WORK EXPERIENCE (maximum of 24 months paid work experience) <br />1. On the job training; internships <br />2. Field based vocational and occupational skills training; <br />3. Develop positive work ethic/attitude/performance; <br />4. Individualized job specific skill training and certifications; <br />5. Crew based and individual leadership development; <br />6. Community service opportunities; <br />7. Team building and other crew/peer centered activities to develop <br />responsibility and positive social interactions. <br /> <br />EDUCATION <br />1. Individual education goals (high school diploma and/or post-secondary <br />instruction) <br />2. Study skills; tutoring; secondary school instruction; drop out prevention <br />strategies; <br />3. Basic skills remediation; <br />4. Literacy and numeracy gains; <br />5. CA High School Exit Exam; tutoring and preparation; <br />6. OCCC Charter School attendance; earn high school diploma; <br />7. Field based learning activities to incorporate field work projects with the <br />classroom; <br />8. Quarterly recognitions, field trips, and other activities to build positive <br />social interactions. <br /> <br />INDIVIDUALIZED CASE MANAGEMENT & SUPPORT SERVICES <br />1. Referrals for comprehensive guidance and counseling for legal, medical, <br />substance abuse, family/personal, health, housing, etc. issues <br /> <br />Page 15 of 23 <br />
