The purpose of the program is to provide a daily, free academic resource for low-income
students attending these schools. Each day, students rotate through one-hour segments of the program as they
participate in one hour each of academic intervention in core subjects (literacy, math, and science), homework help to
understand and complete assignments, and enrichmenUrecreational curricula including physical fitness activities and
nutrition education. The literacy intervention helps students improve their ability to read, speak, and write English
while developing comprehension and vocabulary. The program is staffed at each location by a full-time Site
Coordinator and a part-time Program Leader for every 20 students, giving students the individual attention that is
lacking during the regular school day. Volunteer tutors help further reduce the adult-to-student ratios. Staff and
volunteers work with students individually or in small groups to effecftively deliver program components and help
students succeed in school, stay in school, and graduate with the classes and grades necessary to pursue higher
education or career training. Middle school students are encouraged to enroll in college prep classes and are
motivated to consider college through field trips to college campuses.

Schedule of Performace
Estimate the number of ONLY unduplicated Santa Ana residents to be served by the funded program during the 12-
month contract period per quarter.
