<br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />DECEMBER 3, 2007 <br /> <br />TITLE: <br /> <br />CALIFORNIA'S EDGE CAMPAIGN <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />o As Recommended <br />o As Amended <br />o Ordinance on 15t Reading <br />o Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />o Implementing Resolution <br />o Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />& <br /> <br />O~7/2 <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />--- <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Approve that the Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board join the list of <br />endorsers for the California's EDGE Campaign. <br /> <br />WORKFORCE INVESMENT BOARD ACTION <br /> <br />At its Regular Meeting of November 9, 2007, by a vote of 18: 0 (Blank, <br />Campanelli, Claudio, Figueroa, Korthuis, Lacroix, Martinez, McMurtray, <br />Quarles, Sanchez and Zarate absent), the Workforce Investment Board <br />recommended that the City Council approve that the Santa Ana Workforce <br />Investment Board join the list of endorsers for the California's EDGE <br />Campaign. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />At its regular meeting on October 26, 2007, the Executive Committee <br />instructed staff to add an item to the November 9, 2007, Workforce <br />Investment Board (WIB) meeting agenda asking the WIB to endorse <br />California's EDGE Campaign. The WIB Chair reviewed the document titled <br />"CALI FORNIA EDGE: Keeping California Competi ti ve, Creating Opportunity" <br />(Exhibit 1). <br /> <br />California's EDGE Campaign was created to address the worker skill <br />shortage, resulting from the pending retirement of the baby boomer <br />generation. The campaign focuses on five key areas necessary for <br />California to build a broad talent base. The areas are: <br /> <br />1. Invest in regional workforce and economic development strategies <br />to build prosperous communities and competitive industries. <br /> <br />19E-1 <br />
