REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />DECEL~ER 3 , 2007 <br />TITLE: <br />APPOINTMENT OF PRIVATE SECTOR <br />ME1~ER5 TO THE SANTA ANA WORKFORCE <br />INVESTMENT BOARD <br />..c ~,._------- <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 15f Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Appoint Ms. Teresa Saldivar, Owner, Teresa's Jeweler, and Mr. Octavio <br />Pina, President, Casapueblo Realty, as private sector members on the <br />Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board. <br />WORKFORCE INVESMENT BOARD RECOL~Il~~NDATION <br />At its Regular Meeting of November 9, 2007, by a vote of 18:0 (Blank, <br />Campanelli, Claudio, Figueroa, Korthuis, Lacroix, Martinez, McMurtray, <br />Quarles, Sanchez and Zarate absent), the Workforce Investment Board <br />recommended that the City Council appoint Ms. Teresa Saldivar, Owner, <br />Teresa's Jewelers, and Mr. Octavio Pina, President, Casapueblo Realty, as <br />private sector members on the Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board. <br />DISCUSSION <br />On March 6, 2000, the Santa Ana City Council adopted a resolution <br />establishing the Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board and appointed 35 <br />members. In accordance with the federal legislation, a majority of the <br />Board members and the Board Chair must come from the private sector. The <br />remaining Board members represent education, non-profit organizations, <br />One-Stop mandated partners and local labor organizations. <br />Currently, there are three mandated private sector vacancies on the <br />Board. After an extensive recruitment campaign and interview process, <br />staff is recommending Ms. Teresa Saldivar and Mr. Octavio Pina as private <br />sector members. Ms. Saldivar's and Mr. Pina's resumes and membership <br />profiles are attached (Exhibit 1). Staff will continue to work to fill <br />the remaining vacancies on the Board. <br />13B-1 <br />
