1/15/OSles <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2008-008 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA SUPPORTING FEDERAL FUNDING OF <br />PROJECTS AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTIVE <br />DIRECTOR OF THE PUBLIC WORKS AGENCY TO <br />SUBMIT THE PROJECTS FOR FUNDING UNDER THE <br />HIGHWAY SAFETY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines <br />and declares as follows: <br />A. The Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), codified as Section <br />148 of Title 23, United States Code (23 U.S.C. section 148) is a core <br />program as a result of the passage of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, <br />Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users. <br />B. The State of California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) issued a <br />call for projects for the HSIP for Federal Fiscal Year 2007/2008 and <br />Federal Fiscal Year 200812009, to use federal transportation funds for <br />construction of projects that will improve traffic and pedestrian safety, such <br />as traffic signals and signage upgrades. <br />C. CalTrans makes grants available to local governmental agencies under <br />the Program based on the results of a statewide competition. <br />D. Projects eligible for funding include any local agency public road, any local <br />public agency surface transportation facility, any local agency publicly- <br />owned bicycle or pedestrian pathway or trail, or any traffic calming <br />measure on a local agency public road. <br />E. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana possesses the legal authority to <br />nominate, finance, acquire, and construct projects that are eligible for <br />funding under the HSIP Program. <br />F. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana supports efforts to improve <br />traffic and pedestrian safety in the City of Santa Ana. <br />Section 2. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana authorizes the Executive <br />Director of the Public Works Agency or his designee to execute, in the name of the City <br />of Santa Ana, all necessary documentation and applications required to be submitted to <br />Resolution No. 2008-008 <br />Page 1 of 3 <br />
