REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />MARCH 3, 2008 <br />TITLE: <br />AMENDMENT TO AGREEMENT WITH ANN <br />CHRISTOPH FOR ARCHITECTURAL AND <br />LANDSCAPING DESIGN SERVICES AT THE <br />SANTA ANA ZOO AT PRENTICE PARK AND <br />SANTIAGO PARR ~ <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 15t Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Authorize the City Manager and Clerk of the Council to execute the <br />attached amendment to the agreement with Ann Christoph in the amount of <br />$72,170 for a total contract in the amount of $155,470, subject to non- <br />substantive changes approved by the City Manager and City Attorney to <br />provide architectural services at the Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park and <br />Santiago Park. <br />DISCUSSION <br />On October 2, 2006, the City Council approved an agreement with Ann <br />Christoph to provide architectural services for the Santa Ana Zoo's <br />newest exhibit, Tierra de las Pampas. These services include design of <br />new exhibit space for rheas and guanacos and a new anteater exhibit. <br />Through the design development process, staff has identified several <br />necessary scope additions. To implement these changes, additional <br />architectural design services in the amount of $26,050 are required. <br />Additionally, the City applied for and received grant funds for two <br />projects adjacent to the new Santiago Park Wildlife and Wetlands <br />Interpretive Center. The Land and Water Conservation Fund grant for the <br />Santiago Park Nature Reserve Amphitheatre was approved by City Council on <br />May 1, 2006 in the amount of $150,000. This project includes the <br />construction of an amphitheatre adjacent to new interpretive center to <br />supplement its educational program. This agreement amendment will provide <br />for $31,356 of design services for this project. <br />On November 7, 2005, the City Council approved a Habitat Conservation <br />Grant from the State of California in the amount of $50,000. These funds <br />will be used for the restoration of native habitat around the <br />interpretive center. A restoration ecologist is required to ensure the <br />habitat restoration is implemented appropriately. This agreement <br />amendment will provide for $14,764 of design services for this <br />restoration project. <br />25J-1 <br />
