SANTA ANA POLICE DEPARTMENT'S STRIKE FORCE UPDATE - <br />POLICE CHIEF WALTERS <br /> <br />A Staff presentation was made by Paul Walters, Chief of Police. Highlights <br />of this presentation are as follows: <br />. Strike Force concept formed in late November 2005 <br />. Orange County's first full time Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) <br />element <br />. Provides the city with professional tactical support for high-risk incidents <br />. Provides violent crime suppression <br />. Before strike force there were 10-15 SWAT callouts annually; after <br />strike force there were 2-3 SWAT callouts annually <br />. The City had the lowest crime rate in 17 years in 2007 <br /> <br />Lisann Martinez expressed concerns about the expenditure of funds for <br />this purpose. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARINGS <br /> <br />75.A.
