<br />PJC-9/5/07 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 200B-XXX <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA SUPPORTING THE REDUCTION OF <br />UNDERAGE ALCOHOL USE <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines <br />and declares as follows: <br /> <br />A. According to the 2006 California Healthy Kids Survey alcohol is the <br />number one problem facing Orange County youth. <br /> <br />B. Nearly two-thirds (62%) of Orange County youth surveyed reported that <br />they had alcohol at least once a month in the six months prior to the <br />survey, according to the 2006 Youth Access to Alcohol Survey conducted <br />by the Orange County Health Care Agency, Alcohol and Drug Education <br />Prevention Team. <br /> <br />C. Youth in the City of Santa Ana cited social sources, particularly older <br />friends, family members and school parties, as the primary source of <br />alcohol. <br /> <br />D. The City Council recognizes community concerns to improve health and <br />provide supportive environments for children and youth. <br /> <br />E. One alternative way to address underage drinking is to ensure that our <br />youth have activities that engage and involve them. <br /> <br />F. A fundamental approach to decreasing underage alcohol use is through <br />reducing social and commercial alcohol access to youth. <br /> <br />G. Conducting community awareness campaign targeting youth and adults, <br />and providing complimentary activities and educational components <br />address the reduction of underage drinking. <br /> <br />Section 2. The Santa Ana City Council does hereby support underage drinking <br />prevention organizations in their efforts to improve understanding among Santa Ana <br />youth, parents and the general public about relevant alcohol-related laws and <br />consequences of underage alcohol use. <br /> <br />55A-2 <br /> <br />Resolution No, 200B-XXX <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
