REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />APRIL 7, 2008 <br />TITLE: <br />LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES <br />ANNUAL DUES <br />CI Y MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 1s1 Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Authorize the City of Santa Ana's membership with the League of California <br />Cities in the amount of $56,995. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The League of California Cities represents the interests of cities <br />throughout California. The League monitors state legislative issues and <br />sponsors training seminars and conferences to educate council members and <br />staff on legislative and policy matters of interest. The League's efforts <br />to strengthen the position of local governments resulted in the successful <br />sponsorship of Proposition 1A which secured constitutional protection of <br />local revenue sources. The League's strategic priorities for 2008 include: <br />protecting funding for vital community services, promoting green and <br />sustainable cities, expanding infrastructure investments, and enacting <br />honest and responsible eminent domain reform. The membership dues are <br />determined on a per capita basis, and the dues for calendar year 2008 are <br />$56,995. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Funds are available in the City Manager's Office, Legislative Affairs, <br />Other Agency Services account (no. 11-011-6251). <br />APPROVED AS TO FUNDS AND ACCOUNTS: <br />F ncisco Gutierrez ~us <br />Executive Director <br />Finance & Management Services Agency <br />19D-1 <br />
