~sr fusros <br />RESOLUTION N0.2006-d87 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA SUPPORTING STATE FUNDING OF EIGHT <br />PROJECTS AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTIVE <br />DIRECTOR OF THE PUBLIC WORKS AGENCY TO <br />SUBMIT THE PROJECTS FOR FUNDING UNDER THE <br />STATE'S SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL PROGRAM <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines <br />and declares as follows: <br />A. In 1999 the State of California enacted into Law Cal'rfomia Streets and <br />Highways Code §2333.5, which calls For Caltrans to establish and administer <br />a "Safe Routes to School" construction program ("Program") and to use <br />federal transportation funds for the construction and improvement of school <br />pedestrian safety such as traffic signals, school signage, in-pavement lighted <br />crosswalks, and traffic ca}ming projects. <br />B. The Program mandates that Caltrans shall make grants available to local <br />governmental agencies under the Program based on the results of a <br />statewide competition. <br />C. Projects eligible for funding include construction projects that improve the <br />safety of pedestrian andlor bicycle routes to and from schools. <br />D. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana possesses the legal authority to <br />nominate, finance, acquire, and construct projects that are eligible for funding <br />under the Program. <br />E. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana supports efforts to improve <br />pedestrian safety in the City of Santa Ana. <br />Section 2. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana supports State funding of <br />projects in the City of Santa Ana under California's Safe Routes to School Program, and <br />authorizes the Executive Director of the Public Works Agency, or hislher designee, to <br />execute in the Warne of the City of Santa Ana all necessary applications required to be <br />submitted to Caltrans for the eight projects identified in Exhibit 1 for funding under <br />California's Safe Routes to School Program. <br />Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by <br />the City Council, and the Clerk of the Council shall attest to and certify the vote adopting <br />this Resolution. <br />Resolution No. 2006-087 <br />Page 1 of 3 <br />
