REQUEST FOR <br />Planning Commission Action <br />PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING DATE: <br />APRIL 28, 2008 <br />TITLE: <br />PUBLIC HEARING - PUBLIC FACILITIES <br />NO. 2008-05 TO RENAME WINDSOR PARK <br />PLAYGROUND TO TOM LAMERE PLAYGROUND <br />Prepared by Marvin Ellenbecker <br />Executive Director <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />Planning Manager <br />Approve Public Facilities Naming No <br />Playground to Tom Lamere Playground. <br />Board of Recreation and Parks Action <br />2008-05 renaming Windsor Park <br />Recommended that the Planning Commission and City Council approve the <br />renaming of Windsor Park Playground to Tom Lamere Playground by a vote <br />of 6:0 at their February 20, 2008 meeting. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Windsor Park is a neighborhood serving park that is adjacent to Jackson <br />School and is located within the Windsor Village Neighborhood <br />(Exhibit 1). In 2007, a new children's playground was installed to <br />enhance the park. The playground is located north of the La Verne <br />Avenue parking lot between the ball field and tennis courts (Exhibit 2). <br />On January 12, 2008, the Windsor Village Neighborhood Association <br />submitted a letter to the Parks, Recreation and Community Services <br />Agency requesting the playground at Windsor Park be named after Tom <br />Lamere, a Windsor Village Neighborhood resident who passed away in <br />November 2007 (Exhibit 3) . Tom Lamere had been an active member of the <br />Windsor Village Neighborhood Association and communicated regularly to <br />the agency on issues and problems at Windsor Park. He walked the park <br />frequently and was instrumental in supporting the need for improvements <br />to the park.
