LST 5/22/08 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2008- <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA SUPPORTING AND AUTHORIZING AN <br />APPLICATION FOR PRESERVE AMERICA GRANT <br />FUNDS TO FUND HISTORIC PRESERVATION PROJECTS <br />WITHIN THE CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines <br />and declares as follows: <br />A. The Preserve America program is a federal government initiative <br />developed in cooperation with the Advisory Council on Historic <br />Preservation, the U.S. Departments of the Interior, Commerce, <br />Agriculture, and Housing and Urban Development. The City of Santa Ana <br />was designated a Preserve American Community in 2005. <br />B. Preserve America grants offer planning funding to support communities <br />that have demonstrated a commitment to preserve, recognize, designate <br />and protect local cultural resources. <br />C. The application for the 2008 Preserve America funds will provide the City <br />of Santa Ana with an opportunity to inventory and promote the City's <br />historic resources by conducting a feasibility study to determine the most <br />effective use of vacant/under-utilized buildings and land, especially those <br />in the Downtown National Register District. The funds would also allow <br />the City to study the potential of tourism and related businesses by <br />conducting a historic survey. This intensive survey will identify additional <br />historic resources in the subject area. <br />D. The National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior, has been <br />delegated the responsibility for the administration of the Grant Program, <br />setting up necessary procedures and said procedures require that the City <br />Council certify by resolution, its support of an application for grant funds. <br />Section 2. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana supports the submission <br />of an application for Preserve America grant funds to implement projects intended to <br />protect and celebrate the City's heritage, use the City's historic assets for economic <br />development and community revitalization, and encourage people to experience and <br />appreciate local historic resources through education and heritage tourism programs. <br />Section 3.
