REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />JULY 7, 2008 <br />TITLE: <br />AGREEMENT FOR GOVERNMENT <br />LIAISON SERVICES WITH TOWNSEND <br />PUBLIC AFFAIRS <br />~~+ G ~~ -- <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 151 Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and Clerk <br />of the Council to amend the agreement for government liaison services with <br />Townsend Public Affairs in an amount not to exceed $60,000. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Townsend Public Affairs has served as the City's representative in <br />Sacramento for eight years. The service includes the review and monitoring <br />of state legislation and funding opportunities. <br />Townsend Public Affairs has provided information to the City on legislative <br />issues such as local government finance, the 2008-2009 state budget, and <br />state enterprise zone bills. In addition, Townsend Public Affairs has <br />pursued grant opportunities on the City's behalf. Specifically, this past <br />year they advocated and helped secure funds for the synthetic turf for <br />soccer fields, youth intervention programs, local street projects, and <br />assisted in accessing public safety funds. Over the years, Townsend Public <br />Affairs has secured funding for the Discovery Science Center, the Delhi <br />Community Center, and the Bowers Museum. <br />25T-1 <br />
