Approve an Appropriation Adjustment recognizing $17,352 from the Office <br />of Emergency Services Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant funds in revenue <br />account (no. 155-01-5371) and appropriate same into the FY 2008 Santa <br />Ana Police Athletic Activities League, Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant <br />expenditure accounts (155-364-various). <br />2. Adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager and the Chief of Police <br />to execute a grant award agreement with the Office of Emergency <br />Services (OES). <br />DISCUSSION <br />The California Office of Emergency Services has awarded the Police <br />Department a Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant in the amount of $17,352 for <br />the Santa Ana's Police Athletic Activities League (SAPAAL) SAPAAL is a <br />crime prevention program that is staffed by employees and volunteers that <br />provides educational, athletic, and recreational activities to create trust <br />and understanding between youths and law enforcement. The programs are <br />geared towards combating gang violence, encouraging youth to resist the <br />temptation of joining criminal street gangs, and supporting academic <br />achievement. The grant funds will help further develop the Community Drop- <br />In Center and tutoring programs. In addition, funds will facilitate the <br />purchase of sports equipment, educational and office supplies, as well as <br />games and prizes. <br />20B-1 <br />
