Through the use of mediation, conciliation and community education, Common
Ground helps Santa Ana residents successfully navigate through common areas of misunderstanding and conflict
such as neighbor/neighbor, landlord/tenant, employee/employer, police/community and teacher/parent disputes. A
trained bilingual mediator is stationed at the Common Ground location on the second Thursdays of every month to:
conduct intake interviews with prospective clients referred to us through the Corbin Center; to provide
mediation/conciliation services on site; to resolve at least 50% of dispute claims; and, to provide workshops to
sharpen clients' skills to successfully pursue their own dispute resolution efforts.
While the Public Law Center currently provides legal services at the Corbin Center, the Common Ground Program
compliments these services by providing mediation services to help reolve disputes where litigation is not
apporpriate, affordable or advisable. The Common Ground Clinics provide services to residents who: 1) might not
otherwishe know about dispute resolution services; 2) have limited time and or resources to seek out conflict
resolution services; 3) need services after regular business hours becays they cannot affort to take time off from
their jobs; and/or, 4) might not have a strong motivation to travel outside their neighborhood to work out a problem
brought forth by a neighbor, tenant, landord, employee, etc., thus increasing the likelihood of resolving their
disputes in an equitable, affordable, non-violent and respectful manner. These services are also available during
regular business hours at our home office in Santa Ana.
Schedule of Performace
Estimate the number of ONLY unduplicated Santa Ana residents to be served by the funded program during the 12-
month contract period per quarter.
