PIQE will conduct outreach
to all parents at the host school by contracting previous parent graduates from our program to share their experiences
and invite other parents to attend the free nine -week parent involvement classes which are offered in 16 languages.
Parents choose to participate in either the morning or evening sessions depending on their schedules. PIQE will then
contract class facilitators (professionals) who we consider volunteers given the small stipend of $600 that we pay them
for the many hours that are required to teach the classes, attend weekly meetings and make follow-up phone calls to
each parent the night before the class. PIQE will coordinate all the logistics at the host school including the nine
weekly classes during 1'/2 hour sessions, the Principal's dialogue, and the graduation ceremony on the ninth week. At
the initial planning session, PIQE Facilitators will delineate the mission of the program and stress the importance of
taking the first step toward better parent/student communication. Also, emphasis will be placed on the relevance of
parents increasing their interaction with school staff. PIQE's curriculum will inform parents how to effectively
communicate with teachers and counselors to determine their child's progress relative to grade level standards and
expectations. Parents will be encouraged to inquire as to what types of enrichment programs are available at the
school and in the community. In addition, parents will learn how to navigate the school system and what classes their
children must take to prepare them for a post -secondary education. PIQE's curriculum will also contain lessons for
parents on how to: 1) enhance their child's reading skills; 2) better communicate with their child, offering positive
discipline techniques that enhance self-esteem; and 3) help their child avoid drugs, violence, and gang involvement.
The ninth week there will be a graduation celebration where parents who attended 4 of the 6 curriculum -based classes
will receive their certificates of completion.
Schedule of Performace
Estimate the number of ONLY unduplicated Santa Ana residents to be served by the funded program during the 12 -
month contract period per quarter.
