Award a contract to Big West Construction, the lowest responsible <br />bidder, in accordance with unit bid prices in the estimated amount of <br />$140,000 for the Teen Center Basement Renovation in Santa Ana Main <br />Library. <br />2. Approve a Funding Analysis with a total estimated construction cost <br />of $189,000. <br />DISCUSSION <br />To promote the library as an afternoon destination for teenagers, library <br />staff has identified the basement of the Main Library as a location for a <br />new Teen Center (Exhibit 1). The basement is currently occupied by <br />staff, book storage and a small public area for accessing periodicals and <br />computers. This project will modify the existing basement to include a <br />new teen center. Once completed, the renovations will add a new themed <br />public space and study room while continuing to accommodate staff and <br />public access to periodicals and computers. <br />The Notice Inviting Bids was advertised on June 27 and 30, 2008, and bids <br />were opened on July 22, 2008.
