<br />Iss08/20108 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA ADOPTING A POLICY TO ENCOURAGE RECYCLING <br />AT CITY FACILITIES AND CITY SPONSORED EVENTS <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines, <br />and declares as follows: <br /> <br />A. The City of Santa Ana's participation in and promotion of recycling <br />strategies can significantly reduce the volume of material entering the <br />waste stream, conserve valuable resources, and is a method available to <br />all its citizens to help improve the environment; and <br /> <br />B. The City of Santa Ana is dedicated to promoting the message that <br />recycling is an effective resource management technique and to setting an <br />example of resource management by promoting recycling in city buildings <br />and at community events; and <br /> <br />C. Assembly Bill 2176 (2004) encourages recycling at large venues and <br />events and requires reporting on the success of waste diversion <br />programs, including recycling; and <br /> <br />D. The City of Santa Ana sponsors and permits many community events <br />each year, at which a significant amount of recyclable material is <br />discarded. <br /> <br />Section 2. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby adopts a recycling <br />policy which includes: <br /> <br />A. Containers for recycling of bottles and cans will be placed in all <br />common areas in City facilities, including parks, conference rooms <br />and entrances to City buildings, in the area where trash receptacles <br />are located. <br /> <br />B. The operator of any event sponsored by the City, or held pursuant <br />to a City issued permit, which generates solid waste such as <br />beverage containers, will be required to place recycling containers <br />for bottles and cans in the area where the required trash <br />receptacles are located, and to develop and implement a plan for <br />sorting and recycling the materials collected in such containers. <br /> <br />Resolution No. 2008-XXX <br />Page 1 of 4 <br /> <br />558-3 <br />
